I am a regular collaborator to the Kurdish weekly Rudaw, for whom I report on conflict and humanitarian crisis in the Middle East - in Kurdistan, Iraq, Libya, Lebanon and Syria.

I have also worked in South East Asia and South America, primarily Cambodia and Colombia.

The school was targeted by airstrikes several times since the war broke in Aleppo, and was hit by an airstrike yet again on 29/11. The school stands only a few blocks away from the Dar al-Shifaa hospital, which was fully destroyed by another airstrike on 22/11.

When I met him for the first time in late October, Zachariah told me that "Even in the middle of death, happiness can still rise," in reference to his upcoming wedding with Bushra. The two had been married for about two weeks when she was killed. Now, he spends almost everyday alone in the ruins of the hospital, mourning his wife.

The ground floor of what was for three months the field hospital in Aleppo. It was completely destroyed by a government airstrike on November 22nd. Between 35 and 40 were killed in the attack, including several medical staff. The rebel-controlled part of Aleppo is currently deprived of fully functioning medical facility.

Syrian rebels on the Salahaddine frontline in Aleppo can be seen carrying the remains of a civilian. According to them, the man was killed in July during Ramadan and the Syrian Army controlling never buried him, letting his body to rot in the streets and be eaten by rats, leaving nothing but a skeleton. The FSA, who then just retook the neighborhood, made cleaning the streets of such corpses a priority.

The skeleton of a civilian in the Salahaddine neighborhood of Aleppo. According to the rebels, the man was killed during the month of July, and the Syrian Army controlling the neighborhood never buried him. The body was eaten by rats and left to rot in the street until the rebels retook the area.
