Four Syrian refugees from the Oncupinar Refugee Camp, close to the Syrian border, attempted to cross through fields reportedly containing landmines in order to reach Syria. They reported that Syrian Army snipers fired at them from the Es Selamet Minaret on the border. The refugees returned and asked for assistance from Turkish journalists.

They told the journalists that they had not been able to speak with their family for five months, and that they had decided to return home to fight for freedom because they feared for their families at home in Syria. The journalists tried to convince them to return to the Refugee camp, but they insisted on finding a way home.

Reyhanli Refugee Camp-Turkey | April 8th, 2012

An interview with 24 year-old Syrian refugee, Mahmoud:

00:00 to 1:09
• Where are you from? I’m from Latakia
• Would you tell us what is happening in Syria? From the beginning of the revolution, we’ve been sacrificing the most precious thing that we have—our lives. Assad’s militias attacked us. They attacked women, children and old people.
Anan has come with a plan and Bashar has promised to pull Tanks off streets. He has not pulled anything out. They are hidden. I’ve seen them myself.
1:10 to 2:06
• Where are they hidden? I saw them. They’ve hidden them in garages and basements underneath buildings. As soon as people go out for demonstrations, Assad’s militias surround and arrest them. Some of them join the demonstrations in order to get the names of the activists and then arrest them.
People need medicine and food. They can’t even get bread.
2:07 to 2:50
We are calling every Muslim, everyone that has honor and everyone that has character to support Syrians. We are not only Syrians we are Muslims and we believe in God. Bashar and his men will kill all Sunnis.
2:50 to 3:55
• We heard that there are Iranian officers helping the regime. Is it true? There are Iranians on Ships in the Mediterranean; in Latakia, Tartous and Banyas. There are also militias from Hizbullah. Hassan Nasrallah is supposed to be a man of character, a man of honor because he claims that his cause is to protect Palestinians. We the people care for Palestine not him or his party. We will never shake hands with Shias any more.
3:55 to 4:25
• Did the army torture you? Yes they did. Five days ago I was out on street in Slaybeh neighborhood in Latakieh and this is what they did to me. This is what they do to peaceful protesters.
