Dozens of bodies were discovered in a mass burial site at the Speicher military base in the north of Tikrit, a city that Iraqi government forces and Shiite militias have recently retaken from ISIS. This site is close to the Presidential Palace compound which was built by late Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

Video shows government personnel digging up the remains of dead bodies, as well as a chemical contamination prevention team surveying the site. The ISIS flag appears above the entrance of one the buildings in the compound.

Around 1700 Iraqi soldiers are believed to have been executed by ISIS militants when they took over Speicher airbase in June 2014.

Tikrit is the hometown of late Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and is considered a Sunni political stronghold.

A ceasefire agreement between Houthi rebels and Yemeni government forces has been reached, after heavy clashes erupted in Sanaa on Monday morning. Shiite Houthi gunmen surrounded the presidential palace and their armed convoys patrolled the capital.

Information Minister Nadia Sakkaf said the convoy of Prime Minister Khalid Bahah was attacked after he left a meeting with high-level Houthi representatives. Sakkaf added "This story is developing so quickly... We may have a new Yemen by the end of the day, maybe a new system altogether."

The Houthi militias took control over Sanaa in September 2014, and have since advanced into other provinces.

On Wednesday, as Vice President Mahmoud Mekky gave a press conference, Morsy supporters headed to the area surrounding the palace and forcibly dispersed the sit-in.

Earlier in the day, the Muslim Brotherhood released a statement calling for a rally by the “Brotherhood and popular forces” to protect the legitimacy of the president, the declaration and the draft constitution.

When supporters arrived, the sit-in tents were completely destroyed, men and women were beaten, and canned food and blankets were scattered around and trampled on.

Morsy supporters said they were outraged by the graffiti drawn over the palace’s walls. “We were deeply offended by these endless insults,” said a furious Brotherhood member who went to the palace Wednesday.

The many Morsy opponents were pushed to the side streets surrounding the palace, outraged by the sudden attack.

They surprised the strike by their numbers, destroyed the tents, beat many young men and even women, and pushed others to the side streets

The numbers of pro-Morsy demonstrators quickly increased before rallies to support the opponents arrived, but the latter were still outnumbered well into the evening as clashes raged on.
