Eyes Wide Shut Masks
Venice, Italy
By Filippo Biagianti
23 May 2014

Rialto, Venice. In a short but remarkable workshop, in 1985 Franco Cecamore has created two original masks for the Venice Carnival. Twelve years later, a man with white coloured men's clothing, came to that shop: the man was Jan Harlan, executive producer of one of the last movies directed by Stanley Kubrick. He visited "Il Canovaccio" in order to buy several masks. One of them would be used by Kubrick in his last masterpiece "Eyes Wide Shut" for the character of Dr. Bill Harford, played by Tom Cruise. This documentary is the incredible and unknown story behind the creation of the most important masks of "Eyes Wide Shut." The artisans of this typical Italian product say that the origin of the art makes it a unique product. Original documents, photographs and the description of the meeting with the Kubrick's production make this the story we tell in our film.

Protesters dressed in V for Vendetta masks take a rest amid the chaotic demonstrations that took over Sao Paulo in early June, as thousands of residents peacefully marched against an increase in the price of a single bus fare. Police officers were accused of firing bullets and tear gas at protesters and assaulting some participants and bystanders. The attacks that emerged angered the residents and shifted their focus from rising transport costs to wider issues. Sao Paulo, June, 2013.

Many parents fear sending their children to school, but now community members are volunteering their time in order to safely get the kids out of the house... and back to school.

Partying with Bolivian President Evo ...
Oruro, Bolivia
By Anne Georg
17 Feb 2007

Once a year, Oruro, a moth-coloured mining town on the Andean altiplano, emerges from its drab cocoon as an extravagant butterfly. Fueled by the sacred coca leaf, dancers and musicians parade along a 4km route in the 20-hour homage to the devil. Then they fall to their knees and crawl into the cathedral to worship the Virgin and receive blessings from the priest. From bleachers lining the streets, tens of thousands of spectators from all over Bolivia celebrate this spiritual procession by randomly hurling water bombs as hard as they can. They also spray foam from pressurized canisters, often on purpose, directly into the faces of their victims. After all, it’s easier to rob someone blinded by stinging foam. Bolivia’s Vice President, Álvaro Garcia Linera, and President Evo Morales chose foam as their weapon of choice. A bodyguard takes snapshots as the president and his top official spray each other amidst roars of laughter. Meanwhile, dancers and brass bands careen by in a kaleidoscopic clash of bodies, colors and sounds.
