Cairo Criminal Court adjourned on Saturday, September 1, the trial of TV presenter and the owner of Al-Faraeen satellite channel, Tawfik Okasha to October 3, on charges of attempting to incite the killing of President Mohamed Morsi.

The public prosecutor referred Okasha to Cairo Criminal Court early in August. The prosecution accused Okasha of libel, defamation and inciting people to murder Morsi.

Lawyer of Okasha said that the Muslim Brotherhood wants to silence all dissent and reproduce the former regime before the revolution.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Arabic) – Lawyer of Tawfik Okasha, Mohamed Talatt:
“The total of the charges that he accused of reflect the same policy of the defunct National Democratic Party (NDP). The Muslim Brotherhood uses the policy of the (NDP) in the suppression of its opponents as they want to silence all its dissents. Tawfik Okasha isn’t the only aim but they want to suppress all the opposition figures in Egypt.”

It was reported that Okasha said that he was in the dock for "revealing the Brotherhood's involvement in attacks on police stations, courts and prisons during the revolution".

Massive number of supporters of Okasha gathered at the court, chanting slogans against Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood and calling for the freedom of Okasha.

Egyptian authorities accused Okasha of calling for the violent overthrow of Morsi, following complaints against him from a number of lawyers and revolutionary figures.

Authorities suspended the Al-Faraeen satellite channel for a month and threatened to revoke the channel’s license if it doesn’t make changes in its programming.
