Bahraini opposition continues to uncover facts about the raids in the "Khafafish al Zalam" campaign saying that the number of raids continues to increase significantly and that the Interior Ministry continues investigating the ongoing violations. Sayed Hadi al Mousawi, head of Al Wefaq's Department of Human Rights and Civil Liberties, said at a press conference last Thursday, July 26, that there is a rise in the number of homes being raided, increasing from 270 in June to 311 in a short period.
Mr. Al Mousawi invited the Interior Minister to open an investigation into the abuses in response to citizen outrage. He said investigations should be directed at an assault incident in Cakhurh, west of the capital, where circumstances were still uncertain despite reports and video footage of brutal torture, beatings, and people held captive on rooftops.
For its part, the Interior Ministry issued a statement published by state news saying that in light of allegations of excess security, it is in the interest of the ministry to remain transparent and accountable in dealing with human rights abuses and to take all allegations seriously in order to maintain the reputation of the institution and the sincere efforts made by public security.
