This past July, Rachel Abou Abdallah, from Lebanon, became the first female Arab MMA fighter to compete in the IMMF World MMA Championships in Las Vegas. She brought home the silver medal and her success has encouraged her to continue trailblazing. Mixed Martial Arts is a controversial sport for its violence, but it is also a male dominated sport and Rachel is participating in a male dominated sport in a largely patriarchal society.
